India’s production house Maddock Films have scored a big opening with their latest film, Munjya, which features a ‘CGI actor’ in the lead role. Actors Abhay Verma, Sharvari Wagh, Mona Singh, Suhas Joshi, and S Sathyaraj also feature in the film that hit theatres on June 7. The film has closed its first weekend at $2.3 million in India and nearly $3 million globally. It is touted to be India’s first film with a CGI actor in the lead role. The supernatural creature - titular character of Munjya - has been created with the help of special effects.

Munjya made an opening collection of nearly $600,000 on Friday and it doubled the collections on the second day, making a two-day-total of $1.6 million. In India, the film made an opening of $550,000 and the collections soared to $1.3 million.

Given the disappointing performance of Hindi films this year, Munjya has managed to make it to top ten films with best weekend this year even as it closed the first weekend with a single digit collection figure. Ranking at number seven, it stood behind Hrithik Roshan-Deepika Padukone-starrer Fighter, Ajay Devgn-R Madhavan’s Shaitaan, Tabu and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Crew, Tiger Shroff and Akshay Kumar-starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Yami Gautam’s Article 370.hello
